Connecting a provider
A provider is the AI company whose model your agents think with. You connect one with your own account or key, and the usage is billed to you.
Which one to pick
- Claude (Anthropic). Sign in with your Claude subscription, or paste an API key. This is the one most people start with.
- GPT (OpenAI). Sign in with ChatGPT, or paste an API key.
- Gemini (Google). Paste an API key, or, where Kosmos offers it on your computer, sign in with Google.
- Grok (xAI). Sign in with an xAI subscription, or paste an API key.
Llama, Qwen, Kimi and Mistral appear in the list marked coming soon. They cannot be chosen yet.
You can connect more than one, and choose the provider for each agent when you make it.
Where to do it
In Kosmos, open Settings, then AI Models, then Add a provider.
What happens when you connect
Kosmos puts the provider's tool on this computer if it is not already there. That is a real download; Claude's is a couple of hundred megabytes. Kosmos asks before it starts, so if you are looking at that question, nothing has been downloaded yet and you can say no.
Signing in or pasting a key
These are different, and it is easy to mix them up.
- Signing in happens on the provider's own page, in your browser. Kosmos never sees your password.
- A key is a long string you create on the provider's website and paste into Kosmos. Treat it like a password.
